Tobenna Erojikwe

Tobenna heads the firm's Finance, Energy & Major Projects Practice Team. Tobenna is qualified to practice in Nigeria as well as in England and Wales and has considerable experience practicing in these jurisdictions. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2000, and was further admitted as a solicitor of the senior courts of England and Wales in 2005. Tobenna also holds an LLM in corporate finance law from the University of Westminster.

Tobenna's core areas of practice are energy and natural resources; corporate finance; project finance; public private partnerships; construction & real estate and mergers and acquisitions and he has been involved in most of the firm's energy and natural resources transactions. Recent matters in this area include advising the borrower in a United States $450 million financing in respect of a participating interest in an oil mining lease, and advising the acquirer in the acquisition of a major oil servicing company as part of an offshore takeover of the parent company. He led the team that advised the acquirer in a $600 million debt restructuring and acquisition for a major oil and gas company in Nigeria. Tobenna recently led the team that acted as Nigerian counsel to an Africa-focused oil and gas exploration development, production and exploration company incorporated in the United Kingdom and its subsidiary incorporated under the laws of Dubai International Financial Centre on the provision of up to $600 million for the exploration, development, production and sale of crude oil from OML 65 owned by the Nigerian Exploration and Production Limited (Formerly Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited).

Tobenna has also done significant work in project finance, public private partnerships and real estate in Nigeria and worked on various ground breaking project finance, public private partnership and construction & real estate initiatives when he worked as legal adviser to the London Borough of Barnet on Urban Regeneration Projects.

In August 2022, Tobenna, as Chairman of the NBA Technical Committee on Conference Planning, successfully organized and delivered the Annual General Conference of the NBA.

Tobenna currently serves as the Chairman of Governing Board of the Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) and has previously served as the Chairman of the Continuing Professional Development Committee of the NBA Lagos Branch. As Chairman of the NBA-ICLE Governing Board, Tobenna led the team that developed and delivered over 200 free training sessions to members of the NBA. He is a member of the National Judicial Council, and he is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the NBA.
